Thank you for sharing your memories of Gaza and Al Baqa. I find so often I only learn of how great a person was after they were martyred or how meaningful a spot was after it was bombed so thank you for sharing some happy memories of Al Baqa. I want to know it for it's joy not just the rubble. Gaza will rise.
Allah yerhamo Al Baqa. What a beautiful gift you got to experience. May Allah be with our siblings who are gone. Thank you for sharing your grief and your story and connection. GAZA WILL RISE YA RAB!
We grieve personally, our heart broken over and over again, at the bloodshed of simple joys and ordinary ways of solidarity with humans and human rights. ..
“If you’re reading this, I ask only this: bear witness. Don’t look away. Let this memory live in you, too. The bare minimum we owe the people of Gaza is to see them, to remember them, to refuse to let their lives be reduced to debris and headlines.
To Gaza, to Al Baqa, to every soul lost—I remember you.”
We owe to the Martyrs our solidarity to demand justice here and in the hereafter ..
you have a gift with words, the way you peel a reality with an intimate touch of the people around you, the lives you observed and absorbed in, the beauty of Al Baqa, all of it is a moving testament to who you are, my dear friend
Thank you for continuing to humanize Gaza for those of us without a personal connection. A few years ago I had a mental breakdown that stemmed from a series of losses that rendered me so anxious that I couldn't eat, and I appreciate your framing of pesto as resilience in the face of something like that.

I'm so glad you wrote this Anam. Mohammed, son of one of my book characters, was one who was injured, but thankfully survived.
